The Seven Dollar Light Fixture

We have been working on some of the projects we have to finish before our weekend bathroom renovation (we will see if it actually only takes a weekend lol!)
First up is our light fixture we got from Home Depot. We have added the weathered copper finish and we are quite pleased with how it turned out. I used a metallic copper undercoat, and an espresso brown overcoat. When I added the overcoat, I didn?t allow the top coat to dry since I wanted it to merge if you will. Here are the results

Also we have been working on the tub. We have to scrape off the paint so we can get an even surface for repainting the bottom of the tub a white in enamel paint. Then we can clean and then repair the couple of "chips". The feet of the tub are going to be done with the same finish as the light but overcoated with a hearty clearcoat. The feet are the eagle claw design. Here is a photo of the side of the tub that we have left

We have been using a drill sander for most of it, but the real thick side, the side we have concluded was facing the front, needs to have the paint chipped off and then smoothed with the sander.
So much needs to be done. Although I do have a glass sample coming so we can be sure that?s what we want.

Hey - I really like what you did with your light fixture. Were those coats that you mentioned spray paint or regular paint? We're having trouble finding a mailbox we really like, and your light-fixer-upper has given me the idea to take a regular Home Depot mailbox in white and apply this same effect, so any more details you want to give me would be much-appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks Bev! Considering no light fixture I could find was under 20.00 I was astounded when I saw 7.00 and it wasnt even a markdown! =)
Leah ~ Thanks for visiting! We just used Rust-Oleum Metallic Copper Spray paint & Rust-Oleum American Accents Espresso Smooth Satin Finish. You could put a coat of copper, let dry and then top with espresso. But I preferred to have the copper coat still wet when I added the Espresso. Since you are doing a mailbox I would make sure to get some kind of exterior clear coat. We plan on doing the same finish for the feet of our tub and we are going to finish it off with an exterior clear coat. Thats a good idea for a mailbox! Hope that helps. Have fun!! =))

Wow, that light fixture came out great! Very nice! I love the rustoleum paint. We recently used the anodized bronze to paint our brassy ceiling fan. Paint covers a multitude of ugly!

I can't wait to see how your tub comes out. Doing the feet the same finish as the fixtures is a great idea...It will also look great against the white. Love it!
